Title: Spare some change so I can dry my clothes?
Post by: bikebum on March 12, 2014, 06:34:19 PM
Guy on the street asks a co-worker and I if we can spare some change so he can dry his clothes. He had a bucket of, I assume, wet clothes that he had washed in the public bathroom sink at my work, which I'll admit is pretty resourceful. But it was a sunny, dry, 70 degree F day.

I wanted to say "Dude, it'd be way easier for you to hang 'em up on that tree than to carry 'em to the nearest laundry-mat. And you'd save us some money!" But he didn't look too friendly, so I just said I didn't have any.

Also, I don't own or use clothes dryers. He didn't know that, but still ironic.

Arg, he was so close...

Next thing you know, he's going to get hungry at the laundromat.. "Can I bother you for a dollar for some McDonalds?"
Then he's going to realize that while he brought everything in a bucket, he certainly can't carry it all back! "Need to call a cab to get back to the office. Wouldn't dare walk in this sun! Imagine the workout!"
Finally he's going to realize that this whole experience was financially burdensome, and such a headache!
"May as well buy up one's own washer and dryer on credit. It costs $10 just to get my clothes dried. With my own machines, I'll make the money back in 250(?) loads, what-a-deal! Gee, and just yesterday I was washing my clothes in the sink, this is way more convenient! Oh look, this one came with a free bedpan!"

And he was so close to being a badass....

Haha, maybe I should have given him the money!

Am I the only one who thought this was just a clever way to dress-up panhandling? Get some old clothes, put them in a bucket, put some water in...jackpot!
