Title: Short on Cash.. Buy a Car.
Post by: Milkman666 on June 20, 2013, 07:19:17 AM
This commercial drives me up the wall because it perfectly represents the way many people I know manage their finances:

http://youtu.be/KWdAXw7ziOo

The woman is in the butcher shop and has to buy thinner cuts of meat than suggested by the butcher (presumably because she can't afford them), then spots a brand new car hanging there, and orders it up!

The only redeeming thing is that they actually mention a price for the car, rather than the monthly payment.

Glad I got that off my chest. Thank you for your patience.

Don't watch this new Apple commercial. For some reason it just really rubbed me the wrong way with how it equates their products to being part of the most important parts of your life and making 'your life better.' Ugh.

The only redeeming thing is that they actually mention a price for the car, rather than the monthly payment.

I've been noticing this more and more as well, they will only tell you the monthly lease price which is about the most expensive way you can buy a new car but most people probably think 'wow that's cheap.' They have no idea.

This whole commercial is confusing. But maybe it's a hint about car size. The butcher assumes you want a thick slice (full size SUV), while the customer prefers a light and thin slice (smallish size sedan).

I took it as "it's the car for frugal people". She buy thinner slices of meat to save money, and then since she needs a brand new car this is the best deal.

This is how I took it as well.

She buy thinner slices of meat to save money...

I'm sorry, but you really lost me on that one.  How does buying thinner slices save money?

6 oz steak is cheaper than 8 oz steak? Assuming you eat whatever is placed in front of you, and not that you will eat x amount of meat, no more, no less.

But she goes in to buy meat... and leaves with a new car!

She isn't shopping for the best value on a new car, she's supposed to be buying meat! The salesman tells her it's a good deal, so she convinces herself to get one, just like that. Doesn't sound too far off from some people I know.

Does anyone find it ironic that here, on this forum, we are assuming that purchasing less than the amount suggested by a salesperson Implies that you are "short on cash?"

I try to spend less on overpriced items so that I have the cash to jump on a really good deal when it comes along. And that Jetta looks FRESH.
