I feel for the guy, but there are so many things wrong with this picture.
But unbeknown to any of these bigwigs, or even to his employer, Gladden is homeless. He works in the Senate cafeteria, and he has not had a fixed address for the past five years.
The part that steams me up is that he gives his money to his adult children and then complains that he can't make ends meet. I do not have a problem with the living wage bill, but to me this is just another example of bad choices.
And based on his history, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that there has to be a touch of mental illness. It sounds like this guy wants to live the homeless life because there are so many things he could do to not be homeless, including cohabitation get with the family members he gives his money to.

Uh no dude, being homeless has led to you having your toes amputated and your diabetes medication stolen. I think you need the money MORE than they do. You can get a room in DC for $300-$400/month all utilities included...it wouldn't be luxury living, but it'd be much better than your toes falling off.
I mean come on with the irony. His daughters are probably using the money that is costing him his actual toes to get pedicures for themselves.

It's fairly common for some older people to just give all their income to their adult children.
It's always been odd to me that someone who is so responsible that they still feel responsible to take care of their children even in their elder years managed to raise kids who are so irresponsible they require money from their elderly parents just to make ends meet. There is some disconnect here.
