Lordy.

I am familiar with this phenomenon and the associated "convenience" fees. Some venues even have "convenience" fees even if you make a trip to go buy the tickets at their box office.

Bring back the days when regular Joe just resigned himself to only being able to get tickets by being the 4th caller.

I keep saying that there has to be a point of implosion with entertainment prices, but I've yet to see that.  It's crazy to me that people are willing to spend so much to see some of these big names, but I tend not to care/question anymore what people spend their money on.  I figure, if it helps the overall stock market, keep spending, you are just funding my investments.

I'm sure this is a fluff piece, but is art, wine, and real estate the best way to invest your money for long term growth?  The problem comes with the fact that young people (I'm 30), don't seem to see the long term consequences of their actions, both positive and negative.  It could be because they have always had anything available at all times, e.g. smart phones, apps, entertainment on demand, and just figure someone will be available to make it right in the end (retirement). 

I really do believe that we are going to see a retirement crisis in our lifetime that affects both high and low earners.  Only time will tell if this aggressive savings rate will pay off or not.

As an also 30-year-old, someone who bought a $300+ Taylor Swift ticket, and someone who is nearly lean FI... the masses making dumb money decisions isn't new to our/younger generations.

My nieces in Canada are flying to Ireland next year to see Taylor Swift. Apparently flights from Edmonton to Dublin + concert tickets ended up cheaper than anything they could find locally. Lodging will be free at my parents' house. I have no idea how much they spent, but with flights it has to be at least $1,000 each.

Reminds me of an episode of that Canada Border Patrol show I watched where a guy maybe early 20s was going through customs I think in Vancouver, to see a Lady Gaga concert, and the officer was asking him how he was affording to fly around to these concerts, and the guy said something like “oh you know, I max out a bunch of cards, then back home and pay them off and repeat”

Lodging will be free at my parents' house. I have no idea how much they spent, but with flights it has to be at least $1,000 each.

Well they get a visit to Dublin and grandparents, so money better spent IMO.

My sister and BIL, just went to the Peter Gabriel concert in Scotland, this summer.  It was just the event that inspired their vacation.  (They got to lock ness and other fun stuff as well)

Yes, I'm sure they'll have a great time, and my parents will be happy to see them again.

Personally, I'd skip the concert and just go for the vacation :)

I knew a family who tried to do the same (after failing to get tickets in multiple cities in the US) because they have grandparents in Ireland.  But mom woke at up 5 to get tickets and, guess what, they didn't get them and are not visiting grandparents at that time anymore.  There's no way to spin this.

And I love Peter Gabriel.
