I haven't owned a tv in more than a decade and for the past year I've been free of a commute and the radio that used to accompany it. The last time I stayed in a hotel I tried to watch a bit of TV. The commercials drove me crazy. I saw several that were on par with the Mazda commercial you heard. When did the jewelry shops, car dealerships, and travel companies merge with payday loan companies?

They literally started doing all of this the day after you got rid of your tv. :P
The money is not in selling the product, rather it is in selling a loan. The incentives from the credit issuers can be bigger than profit on a product. Hence, a stealership will be glad to sell a vehicle at or under invoice price if the buyer agrees to financing from the manufacturer's loan division. Same for jewelry. The onus is on the consumer since they will pay to prevent their credit history getting whacked. Or a debt collector hounding them.
We've got one that plays on the local station:Do you have bad credit? No credit? Are you unemployed? Have you recently filed for bankruptcy? WHO CARES?! We WILL get you in a NEW car!!!
