A fancy meal out for us is about $27 with tip. We don't drink alcohol out. By the way, the $27 with tip actually provides two meals for both of us. Being high income doesn't mean spend every dime you make. I live roughly the same as I used to, other than the fact that I live in a house.
And so do we, in fact we live in a smaller house then when we got married. However I do think being high income means this is an option for us, we save 5 figures a month, have zero debt outside of a 15 year 2.25% mortgage, and typically work all the time. If people budget for things outside of their "investments" such as travel, special occasion meals, opera tickets etc...power to them for enjoying a little bit of something outside the normal. Now, if you're doing something like that monthly, yea that's an issue but I will never chagrin someone a well budgeted moderately "expensive" splurge in life.
