Or it's a touching story of a small town turning out to say merry christmas to their friends at Timmy's

Or it's a brilliant marketing stunt by the social media techno-savvy cyber-experts at Timmy's secret underground lair.
(it's a little known fact that Canada is actually secretly controlled by Timmy's shadowy leader from a giant underground donut)

Don't get me wrong, I stop by Timmy's way too often for a couple sour creme glazed and a French vanilla when I'm in Canada, but no way in hell I sit in that line for a couple donuts and coffee.

I thought Starbuck's was bad, but this summer I stayed overnight in Lethbridge, Alberta.  When I left in the morning, I figured if I just followed the traffic, I'd find the highway, but instead I ended up in the Tim Horton's parking lot.  No joke.

That seems a bit long, but I dunno, some people just really love their coffee.

I will say that if it is a small-town, odds are that this likely became like a big party. My biggest issue is that people are there in their cars, which likely were all running, which is just a waste of gas.

I know that Ben and Jerry's does an annual customer appreciation day and give out a free scoop to everyone. The one on campus had like an hour-long wait, which does seem like  a waste of time. But if you are already hanging out with friends and like ice cream, it doesn't seem like a bad use of time to just hang out while waiting for free ice cream.

Tim Horton's is definitely on my list of things to do when I next visit Canada (June?).

Ha!  In the Montreal airport on my way to Japan, the Tim Horton's line was ridonkulous!  Found a Starbucks with less than half the number of people in it.

Tim Horton's is the only reason I go to Canada.

You don't have to go to Canada to go to Timmy Ho's.  I know for sure Ohio and New York have plenty =)

Yep... last time we visited our Toronto-area friends, we tried to hit TH the morning after the wedding for a hangover breakfast. The lineup was insane, probably at least half an hour... we went right next door for some other random fast food, which was actually fast and did the job.

Donuts. It's very cheap compared to the fancy ones down here.

Crack. It's got to be crack. Otherwise, people would just do what I did.

That would make people's desire for Starbucks/Caribou/ect way more understandable.

I swear Intercontinentals puts crack in their hash browns, as it isn't something I ordinarily like, but will gobble up a full plate of it each time I can, and was ever so disappointed that when the O'hare location got bought out by Loew's they stopped serving it. Thankfully they added an amazing omelette chef and a quality Belgian waffle. I spoil myself on my bi-monthly trips there.

They are here in Ohio. I don't drink coffee so no comment there, but the hot chocolate is gross, and the donuts about the same as the grocery store.

I don't get the love.

At least that'll set expectations low for the rest of the trip ;) If you do visit Ottawa, I can take you to a good donut place.

Me neither. They're on every corner here in Buffalo; I buy my kids a donut once in a while, but the coffee is nasty.

I actually looked them up. There is one on Long Island in Westbury. I don't plan on visiting them. We stopped in one in Toronto back in 2012 and it was okay.

Gee, my mother used to make coffee for Dad to take to work in a thermos.

Anybody else outgrown doughnuts? Sweet tooth faded a little with age? We stopped for Krispy-Kremes on a weekend trip a few months ago. I can't do the sweets like I did when I was younger. Will definitely trip Tim Horton's if I ever make it to Canada.

I like my Tim's donuts if they're fresh, but can't stand anything I've been able to find State-side. I find them all too greasy, or lacking texture, or too excessively sweet for my taste. Somehow, freshly made Tim's just do it for me. The ones that are delivered to the frozen and then re-heated are overrated in my opinion. I lost a lot of respect for Tim's when they started doing that.

I've never gotten attached to any of the commercial coffee anywhere. It all tastes the same to me: scorched.

I'm not a big fan of donuts either, I love sweets things, but they are too sweet. A former co-worker dropped off fudge (makes it for all us, and for his family and friends for Christmas) and I had a few pieces but then was either going to chuck it or give it to my neighbors. Opted for my neighbors, they seem to be love it, which is good. Hate to see something he made with such care to be wasted.

On the coffee: absolutely. I had a great cup at a family style restaurant a few years ago that obviously i have not forgotten. The good cups I can count on one hand. The rest is pretty lousy. If we are going to visit grandma's house we fill a thermos with our homemade coffee and avoid the stop for coffee.

On the doughnuts: you're pretty spot on there. The Krispy-Kremes when made fresh and still warm just melt in your mouth. Now too sweet for me which is a situation I don't mind. Wish my sweet tooth had been this way years and years ago. There would be less of me. ;)

Locally we have a family doughnut shop that is much better than the chains we think. It is a rare treat. Very old school there. The place hasn't been redecorated since the 50s/60s (though kept clean and painted).

Absolutely - on fudge a small taste goes a long way. We do the same. Get a taste and take the rest to our coworkers.

There's plenty of them in Ohio where I grew up.  Not a coffee drinker, but their doughnuts are usually fresh and pretty good in my experience.  Although the last time I went to one was when my HS AP Calc teacher treated the class to breakfast the morning of the test, so maybe things have changed.

I have never understood with all the Canadian snowbirds those places get why there are next to no Timmy Ho's in either Florida or Arizona.  My one experience was in downtown Calgary when Mr. Mandalay wanted his afternoon coffee.  I enjoyed my apple fritter and milk (not a coffee drinker) and we split a small order of Timbits.  However, we did get caught in a Timmy's AM line on the way to Banff one morning.  And I thought there were bad lines at my local Mickey D's ...

Um, is Timmy Ho's what they are calling it there?  Here it is Tim's or maybe Timmy's.  Almost never Tim Horton's, so it is odd seeing the Horton abbreviated like that.

We stopped at the one in Rochester soon after it opened, and it wasn't as good as the Canadian ones.  Re the coffee, the new stuff is over-roasted (to my taste buds all dark coffees are over-roasted) so I always order the classic.  Just like Coke.

Seen elsewhere on the internet - how do you know someone is Canadian?  Say "I'll meet you at Tim's" and they go to the nearest Tim Horton's.  They don't assume "Tim" is a person.

You don't have to go to Canada to go to Timmy Ho's.  I know for sure Ohio and New York have plenty =)

I have a funnier drive-thru story.  This happened a few years ago in my county.

A woman - who obviously considered herself to be a "special person to whom the rules do not apply" - decided to go thru the drive-thru at the local McDonalds restaurant.

But, being a special person, she did not wish to wait in line like everyone else so she just drove straight up to the window to place her order.   The staff didn't realize she had done so, were confused about how they had missed her order, took her order and sent her on her way.

Next day, lather, rinse, repeat.

Day 3, the staff have figured out what's going on.  They tell her she needs to go around and wait in line just like everyone else.

But - you guessed it because she's such a special person - that was an unacceptable option.  She refused to pull around to the end of the line and insisted they take her order.

They told her they would call the police.  She wouldn't budge, so the police were called.

A sheriff's deputy came over and informed her she needed to either leave the premises or stop blocking the drive-thru.

She refused.

The deputy tried to get her out of the car but she was apparently as big as she was special.   The deputy was unable to physically get enough leverage to get her out of the car.

To quote the deputy, "The second time I tasered her she came out of that car like a beached whale."

Yep, she was sooo very special that the first tasering wasn't enough to convince her.

She got to spend time in jail.  :)

It's "Tim Hortons", not "Tim Horton's". Thank Quebec for that.

I have heard Tim's, Timmy's , and Timmy O's (Ho's?). When she was little, my daughter used to say Timportance so that's what we called it for years :)

It's just a coffee and doughnut shop. It's everywhere though - so an iced Capp and timbits (doughnut holes) are a regular treat for us - especially on road trips!

To me, they taste similar to any other doughnut shop/grocery store. We still go to Tims regularly. And they are much cheaper than Starbucks.
