Title: Poor accounting
Post by: Bumperpuff on January 01, 2020, 04:41:29 PM
I was sent this article:
https://www.civilbeat.org/2019/04/hi-priced-newsletter-how-56-year-old-lives-on-51200-in-honolulu/
Good for her to live within her means, but the numbers donít add up. There's $8773/year that's not missing from her budget  after you account for income taxes. Iím amazed that someone claiming to be frugal canít say what happened to almost 20% of their income.

A national paper here in Canada sometimes features retirement plans with an example family, like this one:

https://business.financialpost.com/personal-finance/family-finance/this-couple-wants-a-rock-solid-80000-income-in-retirement-they-can-have-that-and-more

Oftentimes they feature pretty exceptional families that aren't your typical situation.  How can these people produce $80k a year in retirement income?  A $79k pension is a good place to start!
