There is a site that offers this to Federal employees called Purchasing Power.  If you don't mind being broke due to all the payroll deductions and paying high markups for said goodies they're the ones for you...
Reminds me of Fingerhut another place I detest though they dont dig into your accounts far as I know...

My employer introduced Purchasing Power as an employee "benefit" recently also.  I am underwhelmed. . . .

Oh wow. That's awful. The vendors must like it, though, since they're sure to get their money!

The DoD recently made changes to what you can include as an automatic payroll deduction because so many troops were using this for anything you can imagine and getting themselves into trouble.

I do payroll shopping. It's super convenient. I buy lots of stocks with it every payday without moving a muscle.

Don't be too sure about that. Like slugline, my employer introduced this wonderful “benefit” from a similar vendor. They send catalogs to your home, with the convenience of being automatically opted in to the mailings.

One guy spent thousands of dollars on shiny crap. Then he got fired two weeks later.

Companies might take out insurance on it, or instead they have a lot of transactions at a higher markup (than retail, though I could be wrong about this) and so an occasional weltcher can happen.

Man catalogs to your door, reminds me a lot of that Skyway catalog for when you were flying. I remember as a kid being bored and perusing it and even though I was the type that would want stupid things, even I could see how much of a ripoff it was..and how many things were so completely unnecessary.

I've never heard of payroll shopping before, but if anyone ever brings it up that will be my new response, thank you!

Seems like an efficient way for an employer to instill hard-working employees...after all without financial flexibility, people are less likely to complain, call in sick, or quit without having another job lined up.

Good way to ensure people show up and do just enough to not get fired, too.

My employer has corporateperks.com as a benefit. The only thing worth buying on there was the $10 Microsoft Office Home license that was available for a while.

Programs like these aren't worth anything.

My mom used to belong to one at her company when I was a teenager that gave you points and you used the points to get things.  She got some knickknacks and a really nice for the 80's bed set sheets, blankets, etc....

My wife is a teacher and her district has a program where you can buy any number of goods from $3 - $5000. All items can be deducted from your paycheck and financed for 3 years. All prices are presented as $/month (or in some cases, cents)...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
