Thanks to my Chase Sapphire card, I can now finally afford that Maserati I've been oogling for some time now. MSRP ~$100,000 but I only had ~$95,000 disposable income to throw around. Now, thanks to this discount I can finally get the car of my dream$$$$$$$!!! (/s)
I had to do a triple take to make sure I was actually seeing properly. And the crazy thing is, there is somebody out there who will view this email and actually act on it.
"Honey! I just got a crazy discount on my annual Italian super-throne! I am feeling super thrifty now, let's go have a night on the town to celebrate!"
-
You'll use your credit card points - right?
-
I got that too and found it hilarious. Just for fun I decided to see what it would take to lease or finance their cheapest one - and the $700 - $800 per month is about equal to what my girlfriend is saving on rent by moving to a new place with roommates! All of a sudden I realized why luxury cars are so common in the bay area and I spent longer than I should have marveling at how ridiculous this place is. On the other hand, I know what I'm asking for for Christmas!
-
Wouldn't haggling get ya more than 7% off MSRP anyway? Or do super-luxury car buyers not haggle?

I'd think that when cars start at 70k minimum MSRP dealers can charge whatever they want.
Not that I looked this up today having received this email or anything... :-)
At that point, you aren't buying the car, you're buying the brand.
-
Pfft, what kind of pleb drives a maserati? When the bank offers discounts on mclarens, give my butler a call.
-
Got the same email. Funny, I did use my Chase card for the deposit on my new car. They're going to give me 50k points in exchange. How nice of them!
-
Thanks to my knowledge of Autotrader I can get an even better deal on that Maserati! My discount of ~45% blows your 7% out of the water! You can save tens of thousands by going for this practically new (2014, 8,700 miles) Ghibli for $46k (http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=444294383)!

C'mon man, if you are buying a Maserati, you don't want to be sitting on the same seat that someone else sat on, you just pay the extra $50K for a new one.
-
I miss out on all the good offers. :(
-
If I was going to spend that much money on a car... it sure as hell wouldn't be a Maserati. Who drives Maserati's anyway?

Probably kids who grew up driving Mazdas pretending they were Mazdaratis.
:P

15 miles per gallon. I'm impressed. BMW has to lie about their emissions - Maserati seems proud!

I just bought a 1991 Mercedes-Benz SLS 300 convertible with a MSRP of 90k (in 1991!!!) off Craigslist for....7k. It looiks right off the show room floor and had obviously been owned by a collector. My point is that you can buy a "luxury" vehicle for peanuts if you aren't a consumer sucka'.
Anyway, I replaced a 2004 Prius that I had "driven into the ground." It might not have been that Mustachian, but it is only half as much as brand new Nissan Leaf!

Make sure you add up the maintenance costs for the next two years and let us know ;-)

Well, 15/25.
Just gonna be an ultra douche and mention that my C5 corvette gets 1) better mileage, 2) has more power, 3) is quicker, 4) has a higher top speed, and oh yeah... 5) costs waaaaaay less to buy and even less to maintain.
Not to mention that it handles far better.
But it does have a cheap interior.
-
...and its made out of plastic!
j/k!
-
Exactly. Cheap interior. Plastic on the inside.
The panels are actually fiberglass, not plastic. In any event, "cheap" (not inexpensive to replace, let me tell you), but very very light. GM needed to keep the weight down.
Build quality ain't exactly ferrari, but then, it's faster than most any of them from the era!

Ha, my friend bought a '06 Benz AMG for 25k last year, gas already spent 15k on maintenance. But he fancies himself a collector. Has 4 other classic cars (2 in storage). He makes 200k+ but his house has an IRS lien he could easily pay off but "they're wrong" so he won't. He filed bankruptcy this year... His story is so nutty I could write a book . . .

Or pretend he's a coworker in the Overheard at Work thread.

Oh actually he's a former coworker! I'll post it. . . But it might need chapters and it's own thread :) :)

The overheard at work thread is currently busy discussing other foam - perhaps there's a more appropriate place to put it.

Not Joe Walsh. :P

He does know how fast it goes, though.
