@AdrianM: Thank you for this article!  I witnessed three people make a similar statement about nuking hurricanes yesterday! I could feel the brain aneurism developing.

Hilarious.  I can't believe NOAA put that up on the FAQ page.

However, I believe in the 1950's, the govt thought about using nukes to make canals.
