Lets buy you a car, so you can have insurance costs, gas, maintenance and registration fees, so you don't have to walk *two* miles.

Man it would be an absolute DREAM to live two miles from work. Bike some days, walk some days. Drive? Maybe in the rain or if I had big load to carry.
I agree, this is crazy.

Great story but I too hope he keeps walking/biking/whatever.

Ouch. I guess the intention was good... I heard similar tales from tv shows where they help a deserving family by renovating their home, maybe a couple additions, etc. Then, the struggling family gets a even higher tax bill, plus is harder to sell a house that is the best/too big for the neighborhood etc.

I hope so too. Maybe he enjoys the walking and will continue but the car is an option in days of bad weather. Still has the associated costs though.
Years ago, DH was in walking distance of work, it was about 3/4 mile. He loved it. We were also in walking distance of stores. We would like to go back to that again.

hehe, that's my hometown paper! At least I think the intentions were good, although he may have appreciated a bus pass and pocketing the difference... We have a really decent public transportation system here, absolutely no reason that wouldn't have sufficed.

I've been biking alot to work. I arrive in such a good mood. Must be partly a "runner's high".
