ALL new appliances

So my SIL and her husband are getting all new appliances for their kitchen, wait for it....

they already have 3yo all stainless appliances. the excuse is that the stove is smoking(honestly they probably spilled something that just needs to burn off) and the fridge is no longer making ice. Dishwasher and Microwave are perfectly fine. they just want matching appliances with a better warranty. He is selling everything for a few hundred and buying, on credit, $3k worth of new stuff. My DW family isn't known for their mustachianism but everyone is at least face palming this.

well.... at least he's selling the old stuff for something?
I've witnessed countless kitchen remodels where the owners jump at the opportunity to have "free disposal" of their fairly new and functioning appliances.  I got my last range, which looked brand new, because I heard a guy was having his new stove delivered and the old ones "carted away". 

There are businesses that specialize in selling kitchen stuff (appliances, cabinets, countertops) that have been taken out during remodels. Often, the stuff they sell was brand new; people buy houses and instantly 'update/upgrade' the kitchen, tossing out never-used appliances in order to put in even fancer and more expensive models.

We just replaced our ~18 yr old washer and dryer. Great service from those two.

Took the old pair to a local used appliance store so he could have them for parts. They might even be repairable. I gave them to him.

Anyhow - he had some nice matching W&D pairs for sale at great prices. The pair that caught my eye was a Maytag pair that looked new for about 40% of the price of a new W&D.

Something to think about the next time anyone needs an appliance. I'm sure every town has a shop like this.
