Title: Lining Up For a Hand Car Wash
Post by: Prof Penny Pincher on January 06, 2013, 07:42:31 AM
Driving through town on a Friday afternoon (and again on Saturday) I observed a line of about 10 cars queueing to go through a hand car wash service. This car wash can handle one car at a time, meaning these folk were going nowhere fast.

Whilst it can be argued that it is important to wash our cars in winter when roads have been salted, this still seems ridiculous.

A. the roads here havent been salted in a month, as it has been well above freezing.
B. It's winter, and these cars will be dirty again as soon as there is rain, which in England means probably later on that afternoon.
C. Its a hand car wash so it's at least 15$
D. These was a mother trucking queue. I find it irritating enough to queue for petrol, but I often don't have a choice. Based on a car taking 10 minutes to wash (and I can't see how it could be quicker than that, even with 5 guys washing your car) and 10 cars in the queue someone is going to be waiting an hour and a half to get their car washed... This isn't ike disneyland where the line for the ride goes round a corner and you realise there is another hours worth of people in front of you, this was a clear line of cars that you could see from the entrance. These fools saw there was a queue, and somehow decided it was worth it.

So is this crazy? If these people are too lazy to clean their own car then i'm sure their own kids, some kids from the block would be happy to do it for 10$ Could teach a valuable lesson about earning money, not to mention saving an hour+ wait while they dont have to wait in a car, driving 20ft forward every ten minutes until someone can rub a wet sponge on their car....

For the record I wash my car headlights and licence plate and do so about every 4 months. I have better things to do with my time and money.

Do other people see queues at their car washes?
If you do clean your car regularly do you do it yourself or do you get someone else to do it?

I  wash my vehicle annually whether it needs it or not,  and I live in a fairly snowy place,  so I have never paid attention to car wash lines.
