Kevin O'Leary tells us why FIRE is bad

Face palm. Because a job defines me? No.
Because if I retire early, I won't be stimulated? Disagree.
I will live longer working? Doubtful.

I am not sure what to make of people who argue that you can't have an identity and you certainly can't contribute to society without paid employment. They never seem to think we should pay our teachers more, though.

Yeah, O'Leary makes some good points - but the explicit statement that work is the only means to achieve those ends is baloney.  If he's happier working good for him!  no one should take that away from him.

Oh Kevin O'Leary, fuck off already! Literally no one likes you.

It's all nice and good to talk about how great work is when you've literally spent the last several decades FIREd, working autonomously on only the work you want to do...

Oh wait... EXACTLY like MMM himself???
Fancy that!

Ugh, just another sloppy, useless commentary completely missing the point of the whole movement for the sake of getting a bit of attention.

Dude, you have all the money in the world and your priority is to be famous for being an obnoxious little weasel?
Nice purpose...

So again, just fuck off would you?

Well he never made it to leader of the federal Conservative party, so I guess this is second best?   /s

His advice is actually not that bad, if you're by nature a hyper competitive entrepreneur whose obsession with business success make you rich at a young age. People like that probably won't be super happy being "retired".

The rest of us know he's vastly overestimating how interesting and rewarding work is to most normal people, and discounting how much more likely we are to actually find stimulating and engaging pursuits once paid employment is optional.

Is it work or is it the power of being the boss?

"Work gives your interaction with interesting people all day long."

Kevin O'Leary

ah, not for everyone!

Also, what about people who stay home to raise children or care for parents - have they no worth?

Awful, awful perspective.

There was a profile of Mark Cuban years ago after he first bought the Mavs where he said what he liked most about wealth (and owning an NBA team) was the cool opportunities it provided. Simply said, but true. Most sports fans if they hit it big and bought a team probably would be very hands-on like Cuban and enjoy the ride. We have a sports owner in our town who hit it big in his 40s, bought one of the local teams, and clearly treats it just like another business, still working his butt off like Kevin O'Leary on 72 different things. Cuban is involved in 72 different things, but you get the feeling he doesn't micromanage like O'Leary.

The funny thing is I always thought Cuban came across as kind of a douche until he joined Shark Tank. He's actually the most respectful, likeable shark on the program.

Is it work or is it the power of being the boss?

It's more about being able to work autonomously rather than being a boss.

Being a boss can be far more miserable than being an employee. I see it constantly.
