Jorts
« on: February 25, 2014, 02:20:07 PM »
I know the world of high fashion is awash in examples like this, but I thought this was pretty amusing. I bring you the $455 pair of pleated jorts:
http://www.mrporter.com/product/410502

The whole outfit, which looks like it could have been pulled off for $60 at JC Penny -> $2,555.

I have worn jorts since before it was cool to hate them and I am flabbergasted.

That's insane

I walk past the fifth avenue Dolce and Gabbana every evening en route to work. I'm tempted to go in and see if I can view these mythical jorts that are worth more than my entire wardrobe (and I have face punch worthy expensive clothes!)

Definitely try them on for bragging rights "oh yeah I was wearing $500 shorts the other day"

These would be perfect if one were a never-nude from a dysfunctional and formerly wealthy family.

Haha.

Anyone watch Its Always Sunny?

Man, I used to have some jean shorts like that too. I slept in them shits, man. Eventually, I blew the crotch out of them things. But you can't wear 'em every day and expect for 'em to hold up. That was some nice-ass denim too. I miss them shorts. But you gotta take 'em off every now and then. You gotta take 'em off, son!

Wow.  Now that is impressive.  I'm slightly scared to look around that site.  Will I find a "wife beater" for $300 to go with those jorts?  Pre-stained perhaps?

Best I could do was $85:

edit:  But there's a nice gray t-shirt for $500

The grey T shirt is on sale for like $350 right now.

Imagine how rich we'll all be if we save $150 dollars per shirt we buy!!!

I had to open the link, because I couldn't figure out what jorts would be...

They looked like ugly 90's faded cut-offs that someone sewed some haphazard seams into.

Pleated pants can look fine, you just have to be careful about the pattern-

You just know that even the people buying it realise it's a total waste of money, and compensate by continually informing those around them that it's not just any regular plain white t-shirt.

What!! They're so ugly! Why would anybody wear these? Those look like the type of shorts embarrassing dads wear.

Ironic clothing costs way more. Clearly you're not from Williamsburg.

I like that in the image they're paired with what looks like Birkenstock type sandals.  Clearly my FIL was ahead of his time.  I eagerly await the return of the Canadian Tuxedo (my apologies to Canadians on the board for any perceived slight.)

"Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey?
You can't dress trashy till you spend a lot of money" (Billy Joel)

I honestly wonder if "jorts" have been so villified for so long simply because they last longer than other types of shorts? If you keep wearing those plaid (or "madras") cotton shorts you bought a couple of years ago, they'll be worn out by the time the fad comes around again. But denim lasts longer and ages better, and of course a skilled sower can make them for "free" using jeans with worn out knees, etc. So the fashion world had to pile on extra hate to convince us all to trash our jean shorts, so they could then make money selling them to us all over again?

Who bothers to sew?  You just cut off your knee-ripped jeans at the desired length, and let them fray into a rather attractive (IMHO) fringe.

But, after 20 or so washes, those fringy shorts may become inappropriately short…  if the pockets hang out the bottom of the shorts, that is too short IMHO.

Oddly, once the fring forms, it doesn't really ravel further.

True about not unravelling much.  And besides, after 20 washes or so, I've probably worn holes in the back pockets, and have another pair of jeans to cut off.
