Last night I watched the latest Bond movie Spectre and loved it...
It got me thinking all about the Bond World and actually besides being pretty awesome he is very mustachian for a number of reasons.
For one thing he lives off a company black American Express card (shown in Casino Royal when he checks into the Bahamas hotel).
This means most of his hotel stays are paid by his employer. Bond himself probably gets quite a few credit card points from this plus frequent flyer miles galore!
He always flies business / first or even charter jet so points points points.
The house he lives in is quite mustachian. A smallish apartment in a classy part of London. Minimalist furniture and low maintenance.
Probably a rental but who knows he may own it. I can't imagine he has ever filled out a mortgage application before. It is also possibly paid by his employer. Safe houses can also be used instead of holiday houses :)
Cars: of course the Astons etc are all company cars! Easily replaced when he destroys them. He is also seen driving cheaper rental cars and steals the odd car here and there.
So all cars basically free then.
Other transport: well he runs... A lot... No need for a push bike then, and can steal and drive motorbikes, planes, trains and helicopters.
Former SES training comes in handy here. Which is quite mustachian as he is a "jack of all trades".
Clothes: well this is all very top end, perhaps his salary pays for all those $2000 suits but once again maybe they are employer financed?
The watches of course are free.
Food: well he doesn't eat well, or very much at all. An occasional fancy dinner feeds him for a few days, that probably helps with his overall fitness. Alcohol is his poison but he never seems to pay the bill for it? Always running out the back door or heading upstairs for a chat with the boss.
No need for Gym memberships either, "on the job" fitness with fist fights, sex and running around is all that's required to get the blood pumping. Probably could use the gym at MI6 if he was really bored that week.
Retirement savings: well there is probably a hefty government pension waiting for him at the end of his life, or a golden parachute if he is truly made redundant. Every time he wins at a casino or poker game he tends to give it all away or to a colleague to look after for him so they probably just chuck it in his bank account earning 1% interest. But he does have family inherited wealth so maybe that is all he needs.
The bad guys are the ultimate in discretionary spending. Multiple staff, boats, planes and helicopters. Luxury Cars and houses all over the World they either need to be a billionaire or a government dictator to be able to afford it.
So I guess that's what James Bond is all about then? Mustachain ideals VS the spenda-holic bad guys?
:)
