I like the Barefoot Budgeter's take:

http://thebarefootbudgeter.com/how-to-win-at-black-friday/

"The only way to win Black Friday is to forget about Black Friday."

My state's park's are free on Black Friday. So instead of going out and shopping or staying in and shopping on my laptop (might for kindle books), I plan to go for a hike near my friend's place as I'll be out of town already. And the weather should be beautiful.

Let's start an effort to rename it to Buck Friday - as in I saved some bucks by not spending on Buck Friday.

I'm  going to throw that into casual conversations all week.

#optoutside

Yeah, I know it's basically a marketing ploy but I do like REI. And honestly my family has done Black Friday hiking for years! :)

CA and MO state parks are free, too!

We do #familyFriday. My boys and I put the Christmas tree and decorations up and bake cookies and spend time together. They love not going anywhere and having a pj day and I love spending time with them. Win all around.

I quietly renamed it "don't-give-a-fuck Friday". Saved me a bundle.

I think of it as "Keep your Black Friday the heck out of Canada please."   It's not working though, we have Black Friday sales even though Thanksgiving was 6 weeks ago.

I like what REI is doing withe the #optoutside. I threw some money at them as a reward-was going to buy the stuff anyway over the next 6 months, just did it now to 'reward' them and to use everything as Christmas presents too. But I feel left out. I was never involved with Black Friday so I can't opt out of it :-(

So, I am staying in today and not participating in "Black Friday" . . . but I was curious what Amazon was doing, so I went at looked at it and found that the InstantPot is on sale for $78.

So not to encourage this madness, but I know a lot of people here recommend this pressure cooker.  I bought one earlier this year off of recommendations here (and paid over $200).  This actually is an excellent deal if anyone is looking for one.

Well its easy to save on BF.  Opting outside is a hell of a lot cheaper than getting into fist fights with the associated medical expenses.  Going to cost me a couple bucks of gas to get to the trailhead - going to get better health (exercise) and some quality time with the GF.

Big pressure cooker fan here too!  I got a non-InstaPot last year on Ebay for $70, and I love it and use it often.  Just bought one for the in-laws, Farberware is selling a really nice one at Wal-Mart for $59 with a two year warranty.  Like the InstaPot, it does a lot of different things.  :)

So we got something for Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday (and Thursday is Thanksgiving itself, of course).
Is Wednesday still up for grabs?

Wet Wednesday? Liquor stores could have massive sales as a way of clearing out obsolete inventory.

My work has a bike shop, and we closed as part of #optoutside (and no it's not REI) and the fact that small businesses usually do poorly on Black friday. Today is "Small Business Saturday" and we're open. Unfortunately, I work on the admin/fundraising side and did have to work as Tuesday is #givingtuesday and I'm busy getting my fundraising ducks in a row.

I think of it as "Keep your Black Friday the heck out of Canada please."   It's not working though, we have Black Friday sales even though Thanksgiving was 6 weeks ago.

I HAD been re-naming it that... but then went shopping, since the 3 things we've had on our shopping list for the past 6 months suddenly went on sale, <saving> us a total of 560$ (on things we had actually been intending to get full-priced within the next 2 months, and on 1 thing we'd been putting off out of sheer laziness). I maintain that it isn't 'saving' if you have to spend money, but if I'm gonna be spending money anyway, I'd rather spend LESS money.

I have no idea WHY Black Friday is suddenly a thing in Canada, but... whatever, I'll take advantage when it suits.

Ended up doing "Netflix and make tea for boyfriend" instead of #optoutside as he was sick all last week (M-F, only felt better Saturday). Also did some mending. Now that's some BF savings!

I had a fuckin' awesome Black Friday, inspired by REI's public announcement of no BF sales and a recommendation that everyone do something outside. I hosted an event titled "Buck Flack Friday", wherein I took several of our best friends to one of my favorite trails, accompanied by about five rip-roaring awesome dogs, and led a six-mile tour of the mountains with beautiful views and not a single car in earshot. Then we retreated to our house for an international potluck with BYOB. At the end of it all, DW and I tucked in a friend who was in no shape to drive, retreated to our own bedroom, and slept off all the food and drink. Total cost, $20-30? And we're still eating the leftovers and drinking the beer. \m/

I spent 3 days hosting my cousin and her family.
Had the whole extended clan at my place on Thursday, entertained kids in a bounce house, drank beer.
Friday was another family party at my brother's house. Again, beer and entertain kids.
Saturday, everyone in the county park. Then beer at home and off to dinner at my parents'.
Sunday, cousin and her crew left. Went to my other cousin's 1yo son's birthday party at his parents'. More beer and football.
Didn't look at the flyers in the free newspapers delivered to my house, didn't look at online shopping deals, didn't care.

I decluttered during the day on Black Friday and went back over to my relatives' house to eat a leftovers version of Thanksgiving dinner.

But I liked the Black Friday movie trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXvlbEMdRgY
