Help! Woe is Me Retirement article in The Toronto Star
« on: February 18, 2015, 09:03:24 AM »
There is an article about woe is me, people have to work forever, can't afford to retire in the Toronto Star. I couldn't help but read the comments, and when I tried to put out some mustachian views I am getting raked over the coals :( Accused of my life being "empty" - sigh. Well your first mistake was to try to throw common sense into the comments section of a complainypants MSM article.  But don't worry. We hear you!

It's a scary survey actually.  Good ol' Garth has some words to say about it today: http://www.greaterfool.ca/2015/02/18/lessons-4/

Their numbers seems to fluctuate quite a bit year over year. I wonder if they are comparing apples to apples. Would like to see these numbers by age categories to get a better sense of what is going on.

Retirees aren't so worried

"It is striking that in today's economic environment, they've developed a view of retirement that previous generations of workers would not recognize," he said.

Retirees appeared to be much more sanguine about their financial security, with only 14 per cent of those surveyed saying they might outlive their savings.
Same survey reported by CBC says people are expecting to work longer, but they aren't worried about retirement problems.
