$49 Bicycle Bell
« on: March 01, 2016, 11:20:19 AM »

A friend posted this on facebook. I responded that I can buy 8 Incredibells for the same price. Another friend responded, "this seems like a reasonable cost for an American-made artisanal bell." In the scheme of things this is not a huge amount of money, but really, a $49 bell?

Artisanal?

People love throwing that label around to justify paying more for something.

For that price you could buy almost 20 of these, and have them delivered for free to your door. Bonus - the teapot shape makes them artisanal.

Every bike I ever bought second hand was under 50 bucks. Including the bell.

That was my thought. How many bikes would cost less than the fancy bell?

Bike stolen for the bell... ;)

But it's a buy it for life item.

How long will my bell last?
Our bicycle bells include a promise to be the best now and forever. That means we guarantee them for the life of ownership. Should you ever find your bell isn't performing as expected or would like us to make it sparkle for you, just send it back to our shop for a complete factory overhaul.

Ugh.  I hate factory farmed bells.  Only free range bells for me!

The world is full of amazingly expensive simple things.  http://www.klhip.com/clipper

I'm less against them, assuming the person buying them is financial stable, if they really do get people to just generally purchase less crap.  But that is more my love of minimalism.

I'm not under the impression that they actually get people to buy less.  But I can dream.

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Isabel.
Isabel who?
Isabel necessary on a bike?
Not at $49 it isn't.

I'm sorry, but that old joke has been simmering in my head the last couple days, and if I didn't let it out, my tiny little brain was going to explode.

Add $10 if you want it to be black.

True story: I clicked you link and spend a good 30 seconds trying to figure out who the HELL was over-engineering their paper clip that much.  It wasn't until I actually read something that I realized they were nail clippers.

Clearly form !=> function there.
