Five years ago I bought a thin(er) DLP 65" HD TV for $1,000. It's been working fine until a month ago. After an hour or so it will think a new input is attached an go to a setup menu.
For "Father's Day" my wife and adult live-in son bought me a 65" 4K LCD TV. She also bought a 2.1 sound bar with wireless subwoofer. The current AV system has a 5.1 system. The price for TV is apparently over $2k. To me, an upgrade to 70" or 72" would make more sense.
Technically we are highly paid, and can afford the TV. For many years we were a one income family, and were relatively frugal. Now, I'm turning 60 this year, and don't expect to retire until 63 (thanks stock market and wife hired financial planner that has gotten 0% growth for the last two years). Whenever the big expenses, necessary or not hit I keep thinking about that date being pushed out.
BTW - my TV usage is about 5% of the households.
