I can't imagine anyone can afford to pay for those activities. What are they thinking? I'm happy to see they had a least of cheaper options at the end, but would have been more happy to see a huge list of free activities. I am sure there are a ton of them if you try and look instead of worrying about what the neighbors are spending on their kids.

Wow! That is a huge amount of money. I think it's kind of healthy for kids to be bored every now and again. I remember having fun over the summer when I was a kid but I also remember being bored. I think it made me appreciate being busy as an adult. Over summer vacation when I was a kid we did things like weekly trips to the library, going to the park, finding a swimming hole in a creek, summer camp and vacation bible school, summer camping vacations and beach trips. My mother would write the big activities like camp and vacation on the calendar so we had something to look forward to when we were feeling bored and we would get the opportunity to do extra chores to make money for souvenirs and camp canteen.

This summer my kid is only 2 so I'm not planning a lot but we will do trips to the park and museum and maybe the zoo. There are 2 free museums I want to take him to. They also do story time at my local library (another summer activity I used to do as a kid).

Woah!  I remember spending summer holidays at friends houses, riding bikes, going to the library, reading, painting, playing in the yard, going to the beach with family etc etc and hardly cost my parents a cent.  I really can't remember being bored ever, and if I was, mum soon had some chores lined up for me.

The comment about kids as young as 5 wanting to talk about what they did at expensive events at "Show & Tell" tells me that the parents are talking about this a lot because otherwise kids could care less at this age. Really ridiculous!!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
