Yeah, it looks like they specifically modified these cars to be able to do this - apparently, these features are normally only enabled when the driver has their hands on the steering wheel, for safety and legal reasons. I'd say it's a cool stunt and an impressive display of technology.
That said, I do look forward to the day that cars can drive themselves without human intervention, because there would very likely be fewer accidents; computers don't become complacent, tired or drunk. If that means some lazy people will send unoccupied cars out on errands, so be it. Unoccupied self-driving cars would even have positive uses - imagine owning an automatic taxi as an investment, for example.
