Comedy: Bob Newhart hires a investment advisor...
« on: March 22, 2015, 07:27:00 AM »
I still remember the first time I ever heard of a investment advisor. I was a kid watching an episode of The Bob Newhart Show --- back in the days of his first series when his character was a psychologist in Chicago. Today, for reasons unknown, I thought of that episode and decided to search for it on the internet.

Found it on youtube! The episode is from 1974 and the story is about Bob taking on a "business manager" to help him with his finances. It is fun to watch. The advisor tells him he puts his clients in investments that can double their income in 4 or 5 years. That's probably the part that interested me back in 1974 -- I was twelve years old when this first aired.

Watch it here: The Bob Newhart Show -S02 E20- Mind Your Own Business. It might not make you laugh but it will likely make you snicker & smile.

Ha, what a crazy world. So I watched the show and it was amusing. However I noticed during the end credits that the man playing the delivery guy was Lou Cutell. I had the experience about ten years ago of taking an auto claim from him when I worked for Farmers Insurance. It was the most memorable claim I ever took. Nothing out of the ordinary about the claim, but Mr Cutell was a very entertaining man to converse with. His credits are mostly along the lines of "Old Man at Bus Stop" but he seems to have lived a fantastic life and loved every minute. Strange how much you can glean about a person from a short phone call. Anyway, thanks for the unintentional trip down memory lane.

Indeed, a crazy world Professor. I see from IMDb that Lou Cutell actually had a fairly successful career as a character actor. Heck he even was on Seinfeld & Curb Your Enthusiasm. See his IMDb listing here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0193836/.

Love Bob Newhart 😃

Thanks for sharing, got a laugh out of that "financial advisor". I kept expecting him to run away with everyone's money.

I kept expecting it too. I was actually kind of surprised that in the end, the show was basically about how Bob couldn't handle being frugal.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
