How much do they make per year, I mean if they are billionaires (although I still don't agree to throw sucha  lavish bday party for a 3 year old even if I had that kind of money), 37K$ is hardly nothing for them.

Of course it is ridiculous, and deserves a thread here.

But on the other hand, the parents are in the event business, and use this occasion (and the publicity) to showcase their space... so the benefits to their bottom line might outweigh the costs of throwing the party.

Agreed, I mean it is insane... but it looks lovely and they're getting plenty of free press that would have taken a lot more than 37,000 to purchase.

Spin this as a marketing stunt and it may even be a tax-deductible business expense!

I seriously doubt they spent 50k. If you look at the cost breakdown much of it is venue related expenses and alcohol. Considering he owns the venue and can buy alcohol at wholesale prices the real cost was probably much less. It's pretty suspicious that he gives a nice round figure of 50k and that it's just his inflated estimate on the rack rate of him charging for such a party. There's probably a good chance the photographer donated his/her services since they could get good business referrals. From my days running a catering company I'd guess the actual figure as 12k, a fair sum considering the publicity he created for his business.

What’s more, guests were tempted by delectable cuisine: tempura scallops, truffle arancini, pork belly, paella, and oysters. Not exactly kid food but there were also wood-fired pizzas.

I find this bit as stupid as the rest of it. Our kid (2 1/2) would try all of those things if they were given to her. Why should kids just eat frikken pizza? Even if you won't give your child oysters... ok... but paella ffs!

Notice the look of pure $37k joy on the daughter on their daughter's face. Seems like the parents forgot whose big data it was...

That's kinda what I was getting at when asking about how much booze the girl was drinking.  Nearly all the money for this party was spent for the parents.  A little kid doesn't give a crap about expensive food, booze, a photo booth, a singer, serving staff . . .

Wow- they should have upped the budget on Minnie and Mickey.  Talk about off label!

As an event planner, he has a vested interest in making it seem like 3rd birthday parties should be this extravagant. The more people that want to have one, the more business he has the potential to receive. It's sad, but this likely is a good business decision on his part.

When I first saw that picture I thought the guy had imported the Mickey and Minnie knock-offs from Times Square that harass tourists to take pictures with them.

Quote
The parents hosted 220 guests for the third birthday bash featuring a performance by Australian Idol contestant Courtney Murphy. Face painting, a photo booth, roving entertainers and a kiddie-high tea were also among the activities spread throughout an 1830 riverfront estate that’s typically rented out for weddings.

hah, fail! High tea is for plebs. Afternoon tea is the fancy one the idle rich enjoy!

Also; I imagine Idol singers aren't the highest regard, but I'm surprised it only costs $1,200 to hire one for your private party!

Is it weird that I'm amazed they found such an affordable photographer, considering all the rest? LOL

Might be a friend that did them a favor. After all, there's a good chance he has been kicking a lot of work over to him/her.

Ahhh and the photos made the news, probably some very good advertising! Great point.

This type of party is thrown for the parents, not the three year old.

He owns an event-planning business and venue.  I wonder how much of this party was written off as a business expense?
