Harrods
« on: July 08, 2014, 10:25:08 AM »
In London on holiday (family reunion). Went in to Harrods for a look see. Do people seriously buy anything from that place? Twice the cost for food and drink as compared to stores across the road.

But when I saw the diamond encrusted iphone for 75000 quid I almost had a stroke.

I love Harrods! Beyond the cool stuff, there's some solid people-watching to be done there. Not to mention all the Emirati Lamborghinis and Astons cruising down the street in front of it.

But they don't sell much that I would buy. That much is true.

I also went there when in London several years back.  I suspect they don't sell many diamond iPhone cases but sell plenty of souvenir £20 teddy bears or whatnot.

I particularly dislike them because they sold fountain pens for £5 or over £150, and told me that mid range fountain pens "do not exist".  You should at least respect your costumers enough to come up with a believable and not easily checked lie.

Harrods doesn't sell 75000 quid iphones. Harrods shows 75000 quid iphones, to get you to come see at "the stupid shit stupid people are wasting money on," and leave with a very reasonable $10 souvenir to prove you went there.

Come on. Classic marketing. Nobody buys the 64 GB iphone either, but after they see it, they want the 32GB one because suddenly 16 isn't enough.

They are right. Many people go there for the less expensive, souvenir stuff.

I was a sucker for the cookie tin shaped like the classic, red telephone booth, a teddy for the new nephew, and a mind-boggling array of jams and jellies that sparkle like gems.

That was awhile ago.  I would still enjoy the atmosphere of the place, I think.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
