Couple looking for corporate sponsorship for dream wedding
« on: September 15, 2017, 09:55:15 AM »
Read this today and immediately thought of this forum.  The level of entitlement in this is frankly mind-boggling to me!

If you don't feel like reading the article the gist of it is:

Dude is unemployed, but couple wants to get married.
Eloping is not an option.
Courthouse wedding is not an option.
Only option is fiancee's "dream" wedding including pre-wedding spa, red carpet to church, cigars, fancy champagne, and gluten-free wedding cake.
Can't afford it, so looking for corporate sponsorship.

WTF?

HAHA I live 40 minutes from Moose Jaw.  This area, although it is slower then it was a couple years ago, is still booming pretty good.  Infact oil and gas is starting to rehire again, and I have heard starting to "scream" for people again.

This is a funny story.

I hope they get a big dose of reality when nobody helps them.

Asked if it wouldn't just be easier to elope, he said, "It was mentioned to us by someone here in the community but no, that's not an option ... We don't want to just get married at the courthouse."

Ah, I think I understand. So "greatness" is having the party you want, not really about the relationship 'cause you can get married virtually for free at the courthouse. I wish them luck, they're gonna need it.

I think corporate sponsorship works by the companies being allowed to promote their goods and services at the wedding. So they will donate something to the wedding or reception that promotes their business in some way, and the couple has to agree to allow them to do this in exchange for the free item or service.

It's still not  a way that I would choose to get married. I'd rather have some dignity and a small wedding that was within my budget. No corporate sponsorship stuff.

And all these people who say eloping is "not an option", are lying.

Isn't this a reality TV formula? Every five minutes or so, just pause the wedding so the guests can watch a few commercials.

You laugh but it's not so bad having a wedding paid for.  Expecting it to be paid for, now that's different.  But if you can arrange to get a sponsor, why not?  My roommate and his fiance actually won Albany's Couple of the Year back in April.

A whole wedding paid for.  I'd take that over a wedding I paid for any day.  Are there restrictions, sure.  Still not a bad way to go about it though.  I like the freedom that comes with doing my own thing, but the freedom of not paying for a wedding is nice as well.

This would be fucking funny if some porn studio sponsored the wedding. Especially if they had a discrete company name, and the couple were unaware of their true business endeavours. I can see the conditions now.

$10,000 cash contribution to your wedding and complementary filming of your wedding night, in exchange for promoting our services at the wedding venue.

I found this funnier than I would admit in mixed company.

That's exactly the kind of funny it would be...

I was once at a wedding-- not sponsored by Vivid Entertainment or any associated studio-- where the theme was "Moulin Rouge" and the bride walked down the aisle to "Lady Marmalade". I was blushing uncontrollably in my hood, snickering behind my scythe because of the raunchy, inappropriate lyrics which are basically a solicitation from a prostitute. The bride, who in fairness was once known as Miss November, didn't speak French but you think "gitchee gitchee yah-yah here" would have been obvious enough.

The marriage didn't last but the flashbacks did. It was a pretty good party otherwise, although I recall some discomfort with the shoes I was wearing since I'd dropped an 180-lb training partner on my foot knee first while executing a turn on that foot, with the resulting 90-degree configuration of one of my toes accompanied with a certain lack of cooperation in the metatarsals. I'd probably broken at least two bones (I mean my own this time) and wasn't entirely a good sport about anything although I admit some of the Francophones among us were confused as to whether to stand during the processional or to try to tuck $1 bills into her vintage Moulin Rouge style wedding dress.

I envisioned the bride, groom, church, limo, priest, guests, cake, reception and anything else with a flat surface plastered with corporate logos.

I think that's kind of how those corporate weddings are. Nothing wrong with getting it paid for in exchange for advertising, but to me that would take all the romance out of the day.

I do not know why people need big, flashy weddings. I just went to my cousin's wedding, it probably cost around 50K and over 200 people attended.
