Costco beef on sale for $109 a pound!

Saw this today in the email from Costco. An 11 pound ribeye roast ON SALE for $1200! I find humor in the fact that Costco is such an awesome place for the Mustachian while at the same time hawking stuff like this.

Artagnan is a very high-brow seller of meat, their brand carries a high price. That type of cow is the same type used for authentic Kobe beef, so that also commands a high price among certain foodies. Hence why they have it, I'm surprised that Costco is carrying it, but oh well.

There is a Wegmans near me that carries a $69/lb beef. Just randomly I asked a worker behind the counter if anyone buys it and he told me they carry it because there is one customer who basically comes in every week and grabs it,

I recently had some Wagyu beef. It was, hands down, one of the most delicious meals I have ever had.  No way in hell would I ever think about paying Wagyu prices, however.  Someone else was hosting and this was what was on the menu.

I was recently served a meal of this. It was amazingly delicious, and I'm not even that into beef. And yes, it really is that expensive (though I ate for free). Not worth the price, IMO, but a memorable meal, nonetheless.

I've had it at a fancy restaurant we went to on our honeymoon. Something like... $60-$80 per ounce. (I got 4-6 oz, hard to tell exactly when they weigh it, I didn't ask)

It was, as everyone is saying, pretty out-of-this-world. I can hardly even call it 'beef' as it the taste is so far removed.

Expensive, 'once a decade' meal. No regrets.


In other news: I buy my regular-old beef at Costco for 6-8 dollars a pound....
