Company tax-refund ploys
« on: February 16, 2014, 07:11:59 AM »
"XYZ tax company has worked with us over the past three years now.  Since starting with them, we now receive a significant refund every year."

What the fuck?  That's one of the worst things I've ever heard - encouraging people to use your tax company so you can make people think they're getting a great deal by getting a huge tax refund.

I've heard some awful tax refund crap this year, but that's the worst.  What's the worst thing you've heard?

Oh, I more meant this in a corporate sense - "What's the worst company ploy you've heard during tax time."  The other thread seemed more targeted at individuals.  This can be removed if it's too similar.

Edit: I made the title of the post more reflective of what I meant.

I used to have to write a check to the IRS every April 15.  It was horrible!!!  But xyz company showed me how I could fill out a simple government form to increase my withholding, so now I get thousands of dollars back from the government every April!!!!   Thank you XYZ!!!!!

I have new experience being "poor" and I have found that low-income people get HUGE tax refunds if they have kids.  I used to always owe at tax time and since my divorce, I have discovered that I now qualify for an enormous tax refund due to the EITC and various other child credits.  I got almost $9k back this year.  I think a lot of the low-income use these companies to do their taxes and that is the target audience for these ads.
