Capital 360 Declare your FI
« on: June 21, 2014, 12:44:28 AM »
I guess this could be in either mustachian or antimustachian section.

Received this e-mail asking people to post what they are doing to reach FI. https://my360independence.capitalone360.com/

I shook my head when I saw this one:

"The car is paid off. Putting the monthly payments towards cash for a new one. #sweeps #my360independence @capitalone360 bank360.com/my360"

Well it's better than getting a loan at least. There are some great comments there though!

I have started eating the free lunch my job offers instead of buying my own.#sweeps #my360independence @capitalone360

Yeah...I've spoken to my BFF a little about my FI journey.   She's seemed interested, and is not horribly irresponsible with money (school loans and car loan but does not carry cc debt, saves up before taking trips, tries to watch spending, etc), but it became clear to me that she's misunderstanding when she mentioned that she wishes that she too can be FI one day and not have any debt outside of her mortgage, but doubts she'll ever be able to buy a car in cash.    Pretty sure she thinks FI means "no debt" (although I think my original explanation was clear), and I'm guessing she's not alone.   I didn't correct her and will avoid pushing it too much, just mentioning it when it comes up here and there when she seems receptive and hopefully she'll figure it out.

Frankly, I think the idea that someone not from extreme wealth could live a good life completely on passive income, let alone starting in their 30s or 40s, is just too mind blowing.   They hear what we say and change it in their brains to mean something else b/c it is just so far-fetched.

It is a start at least.  And when, in five years, they realize they have all that money, maybe it will be a light bulb.

Most of them are only little steps, but at least they are in the right direction. One that made me shake my head was this; "Trust God". Oh dear.

I believe that message is intended for those who are mired in worry.

Whether the vehicle is described as God or an Optimism Gun, used properly you'll probably find yourself heading towards the same destination.

I took it more as a choice not to do anything about money problems yourself, just trust that God will somehow take care of it all for you. An abdication of responsibility, whereas my favorite all-time religious saying is one I still hear locally: "Pray for rain, but keep hoeing."

wheeliesplotless.com did not work for me.

I was just curious what they charge for the service.

We've had a really bad problem with ants lately and I had to wash the trash can and recycling bin. Of course, this is isn't something I do monthly or even yearly... but the ants were targeting the trash can so I washed it out and cleaned them. The ants have left it alone since.

I'm guessing wrong post. Looks like it is meant for the one about people paying to get their trash cans washed
