Post by: gardeningandgreen on August 29, 2016, 03:22:41 PM
No Problem here's a payment plan that will charge up to 30% interest so you can get that ticket now!

"The new payment method is aimed at travelers who don't have a credit card or can't afford their trip."

Bingo - vacations are a pastime luxury that everyone now feels they "deserve" no matter what it costs.

"But financing is only available for tickets that are $100 or more."

You know there's some fool out there going, "aww..."

This article needs more haterade for potential customers... those irritating poors trying to vacation above their station like they can afford it.  Anyone who uses this should be banned form TANF and SNAP benefits for life.

I actually think this might be an acceptable product if you're in the unfortunate position of, say, traveling cross country to be with a dying parent or you're in a violent situation and need a way to get out fast.

Of course we all know the bread and butter for this company are people taking vacations they can't afford.

To be fair, most advanced nations air travel is heavily subsidised by 3rd would countries. If people had to pay the real cost of their ticket, very few people would be able to afford it.

That's what 15% interest credit cards are for if the person isn't the kind that has savings (and naturally they should).

In what way?  It's definitely subsidized by the local and national government (e.g. air traffic control, construction of airports), but how's it subsidized by foreign countries?

And you'll never guess.  The ad that I see at the bottom of this thread is for...an airline!

I'm curious about this response too.

If anything, it seems like third world countries would be subsidized by first world countries (not that I think that's the case; just logically).

I'm assuming the poster thinks that because airfares are very cheap in a massive competitive market like the USA and 10-100x as much/mile in a small highly regulated 3rd world market then somehow it is being subsidized.

There is effective subsidy the other way around.  Whatever the lawyers say, both Airbus and Boeing are subsidized by their governments in their own ways. All the R&D of aircraft, engines, radar, navigation was paid for by the defence budgets of superpowers.
And flights to most 3rd world countries are directly subsidized by governments - at least for national airlines flying to former colonies.

Environmental impact? That is usually the explanation I hear: that the economics externalities of (air travel | cars | McMansions | etc...) disproportionately affect poor and developing nations.

Isn't it obvious?  When I was flying to Chicago recently, I saw a lot of foreign people on the plane.  I believe that they were auditors from said 3rd world countries.  Next time you are on a flight, look around you.
