Can't pay a £97 Gas Bill... On £100,000 a year

...Seriously?!

We send our children to a private school... Then there’s four-year-old Bertie. His lovely pre-school costs more than £400 a month...Then there’s my mobile phone: it’s always more than £100 a month. Gas and electricity are £140 a month... Broadband, landline and cable TV comes to £100 a month... When it comes to our mortgage, we’re tied into a fixed rate costing well over £1,000...I don’t like to compromise on cosmetics either. I’ll happily spend £50 on a pot of Clarins moisturiser.

I can't even. Here's the link

On the bright side at least she admits it's her own fault...

Poor girl. A likely future convert, but probably out of necessity rather than desire.

Well, I’ll happily spend £1.50 on a pot of Boots Essentials moisturiser... (although you can get 3 pots for £3... choices, choices!)

I really hope that this is a wake-up call to her. While it is easy to be negative towards her, hopefully she can be an example to others in a various situation. There are way too many people that are making absolute bank, but still live paycheck to paycheck.

I don't know how the public school system is in England, but is it necessary? I feel like people that send their kids to private schools here in the US are doing it more because that's what their friends are doing. What makes it harder for people like the lady profiled, is that it means they will feel encouraged to buy nicer clothes because that's what their kids classmates and parents are wearing. The lady mentioned feeling envy towards another mother's clothes and elegant style.

For me, while I don't live as extravagantly as my peers, at least I am not concerned about having money to fill up my gas tank, nor do I carry debt on my credit card.

The borough of Kensington & Chelsea is its own world... I grew up there and it wasn't until I was 13 or so that it dawned on me that most people don't pay other people to clean their homes.

Time to get a job?

She's already a freelance writer. Story was probably just click bait to bring in the dollars so she can buy another packet of fags.

Husband's salary is £100,000.
Their combined income is £100,000.
By "job" I meant something that brings in more than zero.

Then there’s four-year-old Bertie. His lovely pre-school costs more than £400 a month. My freelance writing job means the fees can be more than I take home some months

At least some of the time she's earning more than 400 quid a month.

PS what's with all the photos of her in the article?

I think that's just a trait of the Daily Mail.

(Click bait story tittle tattle + lots of pointless pictures that contribute nothing) - reality = Daily Mail
