The take away of this article for me is "drop everything and become an SAT tutor".

The pressure to maintain a lifestyle must be enormous. Bloody hell, 8k on housing costs alone?

Can't imagine how many things in that article were wants... and I wanted to puke when they said:

“So if you are in a culture where spending a lot of money is a sign of success, it’s like the same thing that goes back to high school peer pressure. It’s about fitting in.”

All I have to say is: Facepunch.

Would be interesting to know if there are any Wall street executives and senior managers who have been able and willing to buck the trend, live down to earth live and save/invest the rest of their enormous incomes. NYC is expensive for sure, but not THAT expensive...

By the way I've always wondered about those insane co-op maintenance fees in upscale areas. 8000$ a month? Are there gold plated hallways, Olympic sized swimming pools etc. to maintain?

More? Restaurants. Dry cleaning. Each Brooks Brothers suit costs about $1,000. If you run a bank, you can’t look like a slob.

I wasn't going to comment as the article speaks for itself, but I got a Brooks Brothers suit at goodwill once for $12.

I know some people that work on Wall Street and they will talk about making an insane amount of money and yet they are essentially living from paycheck to paycheck, and hoping that their bonus is high. True this is third-hand news, but still utterly insane.

Aw, poor babies. The 4 million dollar house in the hamptons makes me want to seriously bitch-slap someone.
