Saw this the other day. Look at all those great rates you can get on a WEDDING DRESS. 8.5%. Yippee.
-
But look how happy everyone is when she wears the dress......
And muppets yo

That's so cringe-worthy. Ugh.

Eh, that wasn't so bad. It's a pretty light-hearted tone.

I think the tone is part of the reason why it's so bad.
Don't have enough money for a dress? That's normal, take out a loan to make your daughter happy!
The point of the ad is to make people think they need to spend money they don't have. Consumerism at its best.

Can't afford your daughter's wedding dress? Give her a sewing machine and have her look up the basics on YouTube. Problem solved.
Edited to add: after finding out how difficult the work is and being totally unable to DIY, she'll be grateful for whatever you provide.
-
Jeez, most places take a downpayment to order the gown, and then you pay the balance due before the wedding. That would be better than taking a loan out.
-
Three words: Rent the Runway. They rock. I'm sure there are other sites, but that's the only one I know.

Wait, people buy wedding dresses? As if they would use it enough to make it a worthwhile purchase? Or is it the rental cost she can't afford?

Yeah, I go to the opera and I've heard rave reviews from a bunch of ladies that go.
