Saw this piece today and immediately thought of you folks. I don't know what's more ridiculous -- the fact that $400k is not enough to afford sending kids to private schools (we can talk about public vs private vs home another time), that they pay $50k for a nanny, or that if their income was "only" $200k they would qualify for financial aid. Sigh. I wish I made as much as their nanny... except then I'd have to put up with them!

When the class war comes, I'm going to eat the rich.

Ooh, good question. I've known rich people ($60 million net worth) and they don't think they're rich because there is the "ultra rich."
So it's all relative?

From reading comments on a couple of the sites I follow, I've come to the conclusion that "rich" is "anyone who makes more money than you".
I have a Zombie Apocalypse plan in place, but nothing set up for the Class War. I'm hoping the plan is somewhat interchangeable though.

They both require a flashlight, a sharp knife and comfortable shoes. Beyond that, the details get hazy.

While I do think that "rich" is a relative term, I don't think this is 100% accurate. I think "rich" is self defined by disposable income past mandatory expenses. I do think that a HHI of 400k, and 50k nanny, and a private school is rich. If suddenly they changed their priorities they could drop the nanny, the private school, and a few other frivolous things, and then afford to buy a brand new car every month. Hell I almost consider myself rich and my income is only ~50k.

I'm pretty sure $60mn is already trending toward "ultra rich". Über rich must be what they're feeling left out of.

You know when you say that, it just makes us want to read it, right?
It was ... special, that's for sure! I especially liked the way they slapped down the woman with real problems (a dying child) by pointing out that there were people worse off than her ... ugh!

Yesterday my 7 yr old told me you were rich if you had $1,000. But as someone else said, its all about perspective.
