I can make one from an old piece of wood out in the back yard. I'll list it on ebay for $325. Quite the sale considering that one.

I hope I never meet anyone who's bought this.

WOW
actually, I've had acquaintances who fabricate simple furniture out of excess cedar, mesquite, oak they have to clear off their land, and get huge sums.
Craziest I saw was a cedar (iirc) bedstead that went for $6,500. Okay it was handmade and looked nice and woody and gnarly - but what a racket!!

I love the two reviews. The first one is serious, and it under "Pro" it says "Attractive Design". Under "Con" it says "Unattractive Design". The second review is all snark: "Best uses = firewood". "I have to admit that the price was a little high, but this wood burned for a solid 18 hours. It really kept the house nice and warm."

Remember to use sell words like "sustainably harvested" and "urban forestry".

I love the two reviews. The first one is serious

Reviews are the best part of these ridiculous products.  Like the banana slicer or pens made for women

BTW, The first one is not serious.

Haha oops. You're right. I read the review too fast. I didn't see the last sentence about the wood stove.

My favorite online reviews are for the Three Wolfs t-shirt.

Even as firewood, it's way overpriced.  Hereabouts you can get seasoned oak for around $350/cd, delivered.

The worst part about this to me is that they're made from "architectural solid wood beams from France."  As someone with a dream of buying a century+ old farm in France someday and spending more time with my French family, it's heartbreaking to think that someone, somewhere could be knocking down amazing old properties to build shitty stools for pretentious douchebags.

I actually love the style, but of course wouldn't pay that much.  I'm guessing it's still a bit pricey to get a nice solid piece.

Apparently they are sold out, as the link just told me the item was no longer available.

Let me preface this by saying I could never ever buy something like this...

But, I fully understand where the cost comes from. Something like this is not a common size. I don't see dimensions anywhere, but I would guess it's probably at least 18"x18" square, by 24" long, so that's major big bucks. Oak instead of a softwood like Pine or Douglas Fir commands a premium. This is reclaimed old growth wood, which is a higher price as well. Add in the labor cost of resawing it square, and sanding. And then you need to factor in that wholesale price from the manufacturer is typically doubled by the store for their selling price (relatively standard).

So, I certainly see where the price is coming from. But I wouldn't spend that money on it myself. And I can't see anyone paying for this.

In regards to the $6k cedar bed another poster talked about, that's semi-reasonable, but a bit more outlandish on the price I think.

I think it's cool looking, but very overpriced.  It's also not functional because it would weigh a ton and provides no storage drawers.

Still, it wouldn't be easy to make yourself:  It's one single piece of wood, and most of us who have trees that large don't want to part with them.

Hmm. Wonder if they sold any? Since I am sitting on 25 acres of hardwoods, mosly oak, some of which fall down every year, and all.

Yeah, If you'd like cottonwood, willow, or pine, I could fix you right up.   In fact, I've got one cottonwood stump that's close to 5' diameter.

I dare both of you to try. Let us know :)

Just noticed that it doesn't show the dimensions or weight anywhere.  This could honestly be a sanded 4x4 that is a few inches tall.

Looks like they just cut the price from $649 to $389.  Maybe they read the comments section.

Well they have to compete: http://www.eq3.com/ca/en/p24318/solid-teak-wood-stool-round

Honestly, this is a pretty common item in nicer furniture stores.  It's the price that is out of line.  There have been a LOT more comments since first posted -- is that us or has it gotten a bit more internet attention?
