Bread
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:13:29 AM »
So I got myself a breadmaker off Craigslist for $15 back when I started reading MMM about a month ago. Since then, I've been producing easy-to-make, delicious bread pretty much weekly, and have told my two housemates about the machine, welcomed them to use it, and even offered my delicious bread for their enjoyment at any time.

I got home from work yesterday and went to cut myself a piece of the French Bread I'd just made this week when I found something I found hilarious sitting on the counter next to mine. I'll let you guess which is my loaf:

As an aside to this, I recently discovered a bread recipe which requires no bread recipe, no kneeding, about 10 minutes before sticking it in the fridge forgetting about it and then putting it in the pan:

amazing.

I was gonna say "I already have a great no-knead recipe" (Lahey's), but this looks even better/easier! Thanks, mercurymustache!

I'm in love with my bread machine too.  Mine comes with a delay feature, so it's great to wake up with the smell of fresh bread wafting through the air :)  It's also a great alternative to the overdone bottle of wine as a party/housewarming gift!

Great idea. We've given away a loaf or two as a holiday gift along with some homemade apple butter (hooray for slow cookers and pressure cookers), but we haven't thought of giving some as a party gift.

My wife makes bread the old-fashioned way-- with a KitchenAid mixer :). I suggested a bread machine, but she's not convinced that it would save much effort. If it was just me, I might pick one up.

She does buy bread from time to time. This week, she bought some Portuguese sweet bread. She will probably learn how to make it herself soon.

In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, make some Irish soda bread. It's really easy!

I am typically vehemently anti-extraneous-kitchen-gadget. I fought getting a bread-maker for years. I guess I just have this romantic (read: impractical) vision of making all my food by hand, preferably in a solar cooker :) But I saw one at the thrift store last week marked $4.99. Since I'd read this thread, I was interested.

I googled the model number on DH's phone and found the manual, and then plugged it in and verified all the buttons worked. I was leery that it was so cheap, but took the plunge anyway. I love it! It works perfectly and was way less effort than even using our mixer was before. Thanks mustachians!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
