The New York Times Style and Beauty section is usually ridiculous, but I think this one takes the cake.

Of course, such efficacious products had to come with a price tag to match. At $75, the cleanser is the least expensive item in the line, while the serums and creams run $455 to $520 for a one-ounce bottle. ďPeople look at this as luxury,Ē says Morse Heidegger. ďAnd weíre aware that itís a high cost, but we really see the range as meeting crucial skin-care needs.Ē

... clearly my organic imported coconut oil (universal moisturizer, has done more wonders for my skin than any other face cream I've tried, even the $$$ ones) is VERY exotic, to work so well. Daaaahling, I'm ahead of the curve on this!

15.99CAD for 1.5KG. THAT's how you do skin care. ;)

It amazes me that there are marketers out there who are so good at their job that they can actually pull this off.

Consumers ready to blow cash helps too, I guess.

This works because too many consumers (the majority of which, in this case, are female) can be tricked into believing:

(1) that their worth is determined by their attractiveness,
(2) that they're not attractive enough and therefore less worthy then others and possibly in danger of either not getting good things in life or else losing what good things they have, and
(3) that smearing expensive goop on their faces is somehow a solution.

It's a combination of consumer stupidity and social pressure. Anyone who rejects point #1 isn't affected by the rest.

My favorite beauty blog is where a woman puts Vaseline on one side of her face and Creme de la mer which costs $310 for 2 oz Thw other one night. In the am the Vaseline side felt smoother.

Inherit?

Or get disinherited due to the kind of train wreck on the Inheritance thread.
