Etihad has introduced payment plans for its flights allowing passengers to spread the cost of a ticket over five years.

Currently only available to travellers from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the airline, ranked eighth in the world in the latest Skytrax awards, said it wanted to give its customers the opportunity to pay in monthly installments.

My jaw literally dropped when I read this story for the first time. Paying £22,000 for a three-room suite on an airplane is already the height of ridiculous extravagance. I'd be embarrassed to spend money on that if I were a billionaire.

But enticing poor people to spend that kind of money, and pay for it over time with interest, is a whole new level of crazy. The sad thing is, I don't doubt they'll find some takers among the financially illiterate.

I have one of these credit cards through American Airlines.  I pay no interest on any plane tickets that I purchase, for 6 months.  Not a bad deal in my book, but there is no way that I would spring for a £22,000 ticket.

Considering what people already spend on weddings, what's another 10 or 20k to fly to the honeymoon location in a private suite on the plane? Hey, they can consummate the marriage and join the mile high club at the same time.

I was just going to say that all they need to do is to pimp the service in "The Knot" or a bunch of bridal magazines and they'll have a herd of imbeciles mooing at their door.

An Aussie airline is letting people do that for cheap flights NO MONEY for a holiday? No problem. From today, Jetstar will let you book your ticket and pay it off later.

The service is right now only available for transactions between $200 and $1000, and a service fee of $10 applies.

Which means some people are needing to pay of $200 flights over 8 weeks.

Doesn't look like they are charging any interest, if it were open to non-muslims I'd take advantage and stick the money in premium bonds whilst it's being paid off - might win a million, definitely won't end up worse off.
