Well now, to their credit, the opening slide does have the caveat "if you're debt free and have a pile of savings"

However, the slideshow format doesn't really lend to reading, now does it?

Oh gosh, the 7th slide says "grab a newer model" and of course its a picture of a lovely young woman in front of a large television.  The initial impression is "dump your old fat cow for a hotter newer one!"

Awwwww -- in all fairness, the TV's remote control in her hand! Would the message have been less suggestive if the newer-model gadget in the stock photo was something like an iPhone?

My guesstimated refund will probably be one or two digits, so thankfully none of those consumer sukka scenarios are in my future.

Probably not...it was just what the eyes went to first in that picture.  Funny how our brains work.

Web page slideshows are a dirty trick to maximize the number of ad impressions while minimizing the amount of actual information. As part of the "low information diet," I recommend refusing to read anything that's presented as a slideshow.

If your willpower fails and you must read it anyway, then always look for the "printable view" link. If there isn't one, then redouble your efforts to get your willpower to kick in.

I actually liked the link.  It should be titled "10 ways to throw away your money" and it would be awesome to come up with ways to spend LESS instead of more for each suggestion. For instance, "Take a Road Trip" is where they suggest upgrading to luxury hotels.  And I'm considering camping in state parks this time around.  And in "Go Back to School" I am going to take more of those free workshops offered at Home Depot and my local nursery.
