I don't like cheap purses that begin to fall apart in a matter of weeks, but after you pass a certain price point, you're paying for status.
In the case of this purse, I have to notice that it's a large bag on a skinny strap. Every woman knows that's a recipe for a purse that'll dig into your shoulder and be uncomfortable.
No, I can't buy the "it'll hold its value" at all.
And I must admit that I had a bad thought about one of my students yesterday: She's a high school senior who has moved in with her boyfriend because her mother is just too strict and mean, and -- as a result -- she's working LOTS of hours, and she literally cried in my class yesterday because she can't keep up with the homework. Yet as she and I talked, I couldn't help noticing the Coach bag on her desk. And the iPhone in her hand. And while her clothes are probably bought at Target, she rarely repeats an outfit (though, in her defense, none of her outfits contain very much cloth). These things aren't my business, so I didn't point out any of these things, but I did discuss getting her priorities into order.
