"How much was your outfit?" brazilian video
« on: June 01, 2018, 08:27:25 AM »
This video thankfully received a lot of backlash so the producers took it out of youtube, I could just found it on facebook, hope you guys are able to watch it:

https://www.facebook.com/riotoppop/videos/1812036925541645/

It's in portuguese but basically they show their clothes and tell how much it was, and keep in mind that 1 USD (dolar) ~ 3 R$ (real).
But even when the price doesn't seem terrible if you earn your salary in dolars, It's really expensive for Brazil, and this brands are much harder to find here, a lot of it has to be bought exclusively during international trips.

I've noticed this trend of brands usually related to rich "snob" people (balenciaga, chanel, gucci) doing collaborations with hip hop artists, and I think this concept is so much more ridiculous then regular rich people stuff.

Ooh, we could turn this into a fun Mustachian game: "How little did you spend on your outfit"! (Actually, I feel like maybe we already did this once?)

Me today:
~$10 hawaiian shirt
~$10-15 blue jeans
~$25 eyeglasses (zenni optical)
$75 boat shoes (a splurge, but they're work-acceptable and darn near indestructible summer shoes!)

==Total = ~$125 USD. A bit spendypants, but only because I prefer BIFL shoes over ones that have to be replaced every year.

I think the only issue would be that a lot of mustachians have their clothes for long enough that they don't remember the price, ha!
Actually I work at home, so I'm using:

- R$ 0 hands down pijamas (got from my sister, didn't fit on her anymore)
- R$ 7 panties
- R$ 10 socks
- R$ 350 prescription glasses used daily (another thing that is usually much more expensive in Brazil)

ooo this sounds like fun, I want to play! It's casual day at work. Since we have to dress nice during the week (stupid new rule) I'm taking casual Fridays even further than I would otherwise. My only rule for casual Fridays is no flip flops or athletic stuff.

$0 T-shirt...gift from sis, Big Bend Brewing Co.
$1 socks
$15 fun patterned nice shorts
$1 boxers
$15 Polo neon orange shoes

I'll round down to 30 :) The last three are from a cheap place (think TJ Maxx/Marshall's/Ross) and the $ is a guess, the two 15s could have been anywhere from 10-20. The socks are so old I don't remember where they came from.

I wear glasses too but I really don't think they should count as long as you have cheap ones instead of fancypants designer frames. I think mine were about 100 total and I want to get new ones soon...I want to go the super cheap online route this time but Idk what I'm doing and am scared they won't fit right. Bonus...HSA money!

The most expensive thing I am wearing, by far, is my nursing bra!
My jeans I’m pretty sure I bought in college, so 15 years later il not sure what I would have paid for them. I also have a cheap-a$$ Target t-shirt on.

Speaking of which, these cheap shirts keep getting holes in them, but my Banana Republic t-shirt I wear for running is still going strong more than ten years later. I need to stop buying cheap stuff and get quality.

$0 T-shirt - free from lumber company I visited for work
$10 shorts - used clothing store so not quite as cheap as thrift
$2 boxers - I think they come in 5 packs?
$0 belt - gift but it was probably about $10
$0 socks - would have been ~$2/pair
$75 shoes - Lems is the only shoe I've found with a wide toe box and no raised heel but they last around 3 years with daily wearing and occasional abuse.

$87. I wish I could wear flip flops to work and make it $20. Although the gift belt and socks feel like cheating - $32?

Ah, another lover of the flat shoe with a wide toe box! I am continually on the look for something that fits that bill also. I like Vivo Barefoot. For running I have had some success with Altra Running. For cute work shoes I recently got some Rothy’s. The toe box isn’t quite as wide as I would like but they are super stretchy which helps. They are also made of recycled water bottles and are washable, so they should last forever.

Why the backlash? I mean, of people are dumb enough to spend massive amounts of money on their clothing, why be angry about it?

Maybe I didn't express myself really well, but It was basically the same reaction we have in this forum: called it out as ridiculous, and because the video was made by a store that sold this kind of clothes, it had a negative impact on them.

t-shirt: $0. Found in a desk drawer while moving furniture out of my wife's firm's self storage.
Biking shorts: $3 Goodwill.
$5 boxers
$2 socks
$100 shoes (quality running shoes)

You all happened to catch me at a moment in my day that I'm wearing my gym clothes. My work uniform is closer to $250.

We had a thread like this before.  IIRC it was about Mnuchin's wife?

Anyway, today's outfit:

shirt (from thrift store) - maybe $7 or 8.
pants (from thrift store - probably $10.
sandals - bought new - $80.00

hair - 100% natural

I'm currently wearing my "free" Boston Marathon shirt.  But the shirt came with having to pay for the race and weekend trip to Boston.  (Plus in order to qualify for Boston I had to run another Marathon)  So my shirt is technically $0, but it cost me quite a bit to earn it.

Dress: H&M 20 USD or so.
Tank top: Lidl, I I think they were 3 for 99 SEK, 33 SEK is 3,75 USD
Leggings: No more than 15 dollars, don't know exactly
Underwear: Panties were 3 for 99 SEK too but from ICA so another 3,75 USD. Bra was around 70 SEK from Lidl so about 8 dollars.
Socks: Free, they shrunk in the laundry and no longer fit my husband.
Shoes: orthopedic sandals for a whopping 1600 SEK, just over 180 USD. Totally worth every penny as I went from limping and being in constant pain to almost normal wearing them for just a month or so.

I'm probably going to lose this competition

$25 The North Face tshirt
$45 The North Face casual shorts
$18 fancy boxer briefs
$0 free socks
$65 New Balance shoes
$200+ Garmin watch

I work at a running store, so I never pay close to retail price and I get some freebie's, but I still probably spend a higher than average amount on clothes and shoes than people on this forum.

Jeans - bought last year with a gift card to a virtually useless department store. Been trying to spend the thing for ten years now, but there’s still about 40 bucks left
Fancy tshirt - thrift store, $3
Camisole $1.68, Walmart
Underwear pack of 8 for $8 or so
Sandals $20 Walmart
Glasses, Zenni, $12.99

Walmart bra 15?
Vs underwear purchased during 7 for 25 deal 3.5
Changed from free Google t-shirt when sleeping to $10 tank. Shorts thrifted (4?)
Sketchers gym shoes 35
Socks (2?)
Zenni glasses around 50?
Fitbit free, wearing for work
109, higher than i thought. There are some clothes i own, that have a high initial cost (glasses, shoes) but low per use cost due having for years.

This will be fun:

Fitbit: $150 (bought last year)
Glasses: $150 (bought last year)
Shirt: $0 (hand-me-down shirt from mom)
Cardigan: $0 (gift from mom)
Pants: $16

Not so bad if you subtract the Fitbit and glasses.

I'm losing this :

Boxers: 15-20$ (they're a gift, though)
Socks: 3$
Pants: 60$
Shirt:80-90$
Belt: about 40$
Watch: 150$(?)
Shoes: 170$ (I have to wear orthotics, so it's hard to go cheap)
Coat: 200$?

The one redeeming thing is that most of these items were purchased years ago.

I can't remember what the clothes I'm wearing cost because I've worn them for years now.

I love looking for shoe deals when I need shoes. I have a hiking shoe on right now that I paid $35 for (returns) and a pair of sneakers at home I paid $11 for. Both are comfortable. I rotate between them. I have other shoes and boots that are years old at this point.

Went shopping for new shirts this weekend for an upcoming trip but couldn't wrap my head around spending $50 on two shirts. Local thrift shops are picked over here.

Did my cross checking on the web and the store shirts are a fair price, will probably go back and buy them and then wear them for five or six years.
