Title: $50/month trash pick-up
Post by: MsSindy on August 05, 2016, 07:32:49 AM
In my neighborhood we have to pay private companies for our trash disposal - I pay $20/month.  Today we get a flyer that says a company will come pick up your trash for $50/month.....and they'll go into your garage or backyard to get it.  You'll never have to take out your trash again!

Now, for someone who is disabled or has other health/back issues, then maybe this is okay --- but I'm sure a neighborhood kid would do it for a lot less.  I just can't imagine that there are people out there willing to pay any extra $360/yr to have their trash taken out!  But the company boasts they already have over 200 clients.

I suspect that the average MMM might not generate enough trash (after recyling) to justify much of a trash pickup. I'd pay for it if it was priced per pickup. $20 per month or $5 per week. No trash? No pickup charge.

I guess some folks will pay for convenience. I like value. If I can do my chores cheaper myself then I will.

We use our trailer and take our trash and recyling to a transfer station down the road a few miles every once in a long while. Cost? Something less than a gallon of gasoline.

My Mother-in-Law, who is 85, is using a lot more of these kinds of services now.  To be fair, staying in her paid off house and using those is still much cheaper than moving to an Assisted Living facility.  That kind of thing is one reason I don't necessarily assume a "flat" budget indefinitely in ER, though, there are already things I did when I was younger that I would not want to have to do today (insulating the attic, major car repairs, etc.).

Oh man, I would love for strangers to come into my property and rifle around to find whatever. That sounds awesome.

Yeah, I hear you about the major stuff. I've done the insulation job myself and would prefer to do the major car repair myself instead. ;)
