$450 bike pump

I checked, it does not allow your bike to fly through the air at great speed. I think this is just an advertising gimmick, in which case it is genius.

This might make it worth $450.

...and I thought $60 (about 8 years ago) for my Joe Blow was ridiculous.  Although, pre-Joe Blow I was buying $15 pumps every other year...

Silca pumps were very reputable for being rebuildable and lasting essentially forever. But this dude has jacked up the price enough to make it not-particularly-worthwhile.

Especially with pretty nice competition at a reasonable price:

As someone that is new to biking, what is the difference between most pumps? I understand that nicer materials will lead to a higher price, but what else (besides name brand) accounts for the price difference?

That one in particular has a handle made of an endangered tropical hardwood... I'm sure you could command a much higher price if you made it out of illegally harvested ivory or ground up giant panda bones. That guy should think outside the box!

You could buy a portable compressor for less than that...

There's always a market for luxury goods... Bicycling is the new 'thang' on Wall Street, London's Financial District. Search the term MAMIL. Lots of money, expensive bicycles. What's next? Luxury cycling accessories and tools. I don't blame the brands for lux-fying the simple bike pump. Gold-plated CO2 cartridges, diamond encrusted tire levers, platinum stem caps. Oh boy! And there's the whole weight weenie thing of shaving grams of the bikes weight while the rider is borderline obese and not making an effort to pare down weight.

However, then you have a new problem.  :-)  Maintenance, expensive repairs/replacement...  Been down that path a couple times myself.  Best to stick with manual powered equipment as long as possible.  Only add machinery when you truly need the time advantage.

I was going to say that I would pay a premium for a pump that has the pressure gauge at the top, for easier reading. Then I looked up the $450 version and saw that it doesn't even get that right.

But I am rather taken with the replaceable leather washer.
