$45 to buy a secret bag of crap
« on: October 24, 2015, 06:37:33 AM »
Saw this site on my Facebook news feed. Apparently, you give this company $45/mo and they sent you a bag full of stuff (site unseen). The website doesn't go into detail of the contents, but from the picture it appears you can get an assortment of the following

- Antique football
- Binoculars
- an old key
- a camping coffee pot
- a flask
- a piece of a paper in a bottle
- scarf
- bag of wooden marbles

The site has a requirement to enter an email address to browse (I used a bogus one), but I thought the theme was so offensively consumerist that I had to share

I need to start that  business?

People are unwilling to go to Ross or Marshals these days to buy random new age crap?

i would love to spend 45/55 to receive a card wallet, pen, and something that looks like a craft toothpick or the coffee one lol.

if anyone wants to use my login to view it is

Me too. I could start a tea club  using Big Lots, Grocery Outlet, and Tuesday morning.

That website does allow you to buy individual items.  I found some neat Christmas presents for family on there last year.

There is a blog called my subscription addiction. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of these monthly subscription boxes. Judging from the blog there are many people who love getting random boxes of stuff mailed to them on a monthly basis. I find myself wondering who needs a new set of coasters, or a tea strainer, or plastic animae figurine, or whatever other random crap. There are boxes from Neiman Marcus that cost hundreds of dollars.  A source of great excitement is the "value" of the box over what it costs.

My brother does "Loot Crates":

https://www.lootcrate.com/

It's only $20 a month though.  It's pretty nerdy, I like the idea, just not enough to spend money on it.

For $45, I will send anyone here $10 worth of crap I pick up from garage sales this weekend.  ...Actually, probably a very good business opportunity?  Just title your website something like "Garage Sale Treasure Hunters" and sell subscriptions to $45 monthly "Treasure Chests" (i.e., complete crap).

Society makes me sad.

I occasionally admire the Lootcrate. Then I remind myself we don't need to be clogging up our landfills with more plastic.

I like toys. I like a habitable planet more.
