$100 22" tall metal trash can from Anthropologie
« on: January 15, 2016, 07:43:52 PM »
I always think people should do what makes them happy.

That said, if a (not even) 2 foot tall corrugated metal trash can with a lid is what makes you happy, I hope you pay less than $100:

I saw that yesterday.  Even the reviewers can't take it seriously.

They are also selling a metal clothing rack for 1000.00.  That's the clearance price. That's a lot of happy.

Oh wow. They look like Oscar the Grouch trash cans. (and that's what our garbage used to be collected in pre-plastic wheelie bins)

Yeah, but think how trendy buyers will look dragging it to the curb in their designer ripped jeans.

I have an identical one on my patio that I use for hot ashes from the grill. ~$15 on Amazon.

Just OMG.  22" isn't even that big.  Handmade?  Rope lid handle?  I can just hear the raccoons laughing as they feast.

Three of our local hardware stores sell them for $15-$20 off the shelf. Of course you'd need to distress them a little yourself to look cool... -eyes rolling-

For the price of one banged up trash can, you instead could get two of these baskets with koosh-balls glued to the outside!  http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shopsale-home/35876382.jsp#/

I can't bring myself to browse that website. Goofy little over priced knick-knacks. All I can think of is how many people might be buying these things and complaining about their inability to afford a home or pay off their student loans. ;)

Talk about retailer markup!  $100 for something you can get on Amazon for $15?  I am in the wrong line of work.....lol....

Hmmm...  If it's that easy why isn't everyone doing it?

Maybe you wouldn't be as good at that as you are at your current work.

In fairness, mine was new-looking, so you may be paying $85 for the "patina" mine lacks.

you have a point.  I might actually feel guilty for scamming those who would be silly enough to buy such a thing.  but it would be so tempting....

Anyone read the reviews?  Two serious, but then...

This can is a beautiful example of aged corrugated metal.

WOW! I recently updated my loft's aesthetic to "actual grouch from Sesame Street"/garbage is cool and I want to live in a pile of it" — well okay, there's a *little* bit of an eclectic modern vibe going on still but I'm really trying to be firm with myself about branching out and keeping to the rules I established with my home decorator/life coach. ;)
Anyway, I was really struggling to find pieces that would tie the room together, and let me tell you, this garbage can! It's a revelation! It's so incredibly authentic it makes me want to tear my skin off and keen while rocking back and fourth! I mean, you walk in my apartment and you'd immediately think that an artisanal nomadic person (I think some people use the word "homeless"?) was really curled up behind the garbage can, asking for basic living necessities due to the fact that he didn't make a good impression with my co-op board — just like the real life that my ability to purchase $99 garbage cans (well, four actually -- I drink a lot of bottled water and sometimes when I'm feeling like I need to spend more time on self care I just throw them away unopened) helps me to eschew!
If you want the grit of NYC but none of the actual suffering, this garbage can is for YOU! I can't recommend it highly enough. It's that perfect balance of obliviousness, ridiculousness, and innate lack of empathy that defines me.

Well these are now $25 but when I bought them (maybe they were a smaller size) they were $15 each. But, they don't have the patina.
