Did you mean to link to an article? Or am I missing something?

"I think it depends on how much money you're going to spend," says Tim Courtney, chief investment officer at Exencial Wealth Advisors in Oklahoma City.

Bingo.

Pessimistic newspaper editor translation: $1 million may not be enough to retire!

The cynic says: $100 million may not be enough to retire!

The optimist says: $500k may be enough to retire!

I actually think this is a good article, because they stress it is all about choices. If you are middle class America that wants to keep spending the money they used to, 1 million seems like a good target. After all, not everyone is Mustachian, nor will ever be. I think it might ring a bell with some people that they will have to make choices on what they want to do in retirement, but that seems a good thing. Yes, the title is unmustachian, the article seems good for its public though.

I thought the first half or so was a good solid article (linked from Yahoo and was on USATODAY so expectations were not great).
