Year End Comparison
« on: January 01, 2015, 02:02:10 PM »
Hi all, I discovered MMM in the fall of 2013 and have been a long time lurker of the forum ever since. I haven’t had a really compelling reason to register before, so I thought this would be as good a reason as any to finally join the fray.

Being that 2014 was the first full year since I discovered MMM (and a bunch of other similar blogs) I decided to compare my expenses in 2014 to my expenses in 2013 using Quicken. The result was over a $10,000 reduction in total expenses in 2014. This just blew me away; I have always been somewhat frugal (I’ve kept track of every dime of my finances using Quicken since 2004), so this just goes to show how much more can be accomplished with increased focus and dedication.

I’m excited to see what more can be done in the New Year. Thank you all for being a great community!

mattm, congratulations on delurking and your great 2014 results!

Amazing what some attention to the details will do, isn't it?

Best wishes for more success in 2015 and later.

Congratulations on the savings! If your open to feed back then you might try posting a case study for extra tips.

what was the reduction as a percentage to add some context?  Just curious.

Either way, congrats on such a successful change.

Thanks for the replies everyone; I think the best part is that there isn't one thing I reduced or eliminated that I miss (like Dish).

A case study would be interesting, but I'm not sure I'm ready to lay everything out just yet. There are some more areas I know I can work on so maybe once those areas are exhausted I will be more open to the idea. Interesting thought though, I will keep it in mind!

The reduction as a percentage was about 30%.
