What will your rating be?
« on: January 18, 2017, 09:05:55 AM »
Every company has at least one rating.  From D&B to review sites like Yelp.
Companies give discounts to other companies on their ratings and past transactions.
Customers use ratings to decide who to do business with, both online and in person.
Most every individual is rated as a customer - the credit rating.  A good one gets you a discount on loans and insurance.  Possibly housing.
I think it's only a matter of time before each customer gets rated even more, buy individual companies you deal with.
I wonder how the ratings will be applied.  So many companies tout 'free' services, but there costs are just padded into the price - you pay for them whether you use them or not.  So actually a rip-off if you don't use them.   Will I get a discount once the Co. learns that I don't use them?
I would practically luv to be rated, and then discounted accordingly, for my transactions with hotels and rental cars.

Perhaps someday that will happen, but companies would need a reason to implement it and I don't think they see much profit in implementing a customer rating system, especially if it required sharing information with competitors. Also, the potential blowback from customers who don't want to be tracked or rated would encourage them to keep it confidential.

Isn't that what the credit rating does? Not exactly an Amazon rating but...

Yeah, let's see if we can list some companies that already do that...

Credit card companies, depending on our credit score, give us...
- discounts on interest rates, money transfers (not useful to us since we never maintain a balance, but still)
- free unlimited travel via hotel/airfare with credit card hacking (super useful to mustachians)
- access to more cards with no annual fee and better cash back

Banks give us lower interest rates on loans depending on credit score.

Car insurance companies rate us on our driving history and price us accordingly.

Life insurance companies do a health report, and price our insurance based on when they think we're most likely to die.

Tennis clubs will often give extra time/benefits to their top junior players, because they know that other juniors will train wherever the "good kids" train.  I assume this is true for many sport/music oriented businesses.

I'm a 5 on Uber which was very validating for me to learn (I only take Uber on special occasions or when I have a code).

In the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" I would like to think I'd be a high 4, and run my own consultancy to help others increase their ratings.
