Fascinating to see the spending habits of each city. Some things were predictable, e.g. NYC and dining out/clothes/footwear/watches (7x the national average??), Seattle and computers. Some were surprising - Boston and alimony payments, LA and clothing storage (what is that? a storage locker for clothes?), San Diego and infants' equipment. Different cities, different cultures, different Joneses...

Really interesting article.  Not surprising is that Dallas sits only behind DC in terms of car spending.  The number of luxury vehicles, fancy SUVs, and massive trucks on the roads here is impressive.

Yes, I enjoyed that article, too.  I'm way north of Boston, but was interested to see to see the denizens thereof buy 2.5 x more dryed peas than the rest of the nation.  Sounds kinda mustachian.

Amazing.  I'm near Seattle and the only way we don't fit the picture is that we don't spend much on underwear.

Some things which may or may not be totally legal influence my buying decisions.

No sales tax in an adjoining state means that a $30,000 tractor is a bargain, even hauling it back home. Or a 4 horse trailer. Or a dump trailer.

Same with Bostonians. I also found it funny that Boston was high in both alcohol categories and was high in coffee.

Coincidence? Drunk college kids needing coffee before class/work?

I haven't been to Boston, but I get the impression there are lots of craft breweries/breweries in the general area. Would explain both the Twin Cities (lots and lots of breweries in MN and nearby in WI) and Boston's drinking habits. Plus, ya know, when it's freaking winter we would rather stay inside and drink than go outside and freeze.

But Boston is the most Mustashian - they spend more on bicycles than anywhere else!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
